SUCCESSION PLANNING

Our Process

Leadership transitions often evoke a sense of uncertainty, triggering concerns about redefined roles, cultural shifts, and the potential disruption of the organization's mission. Whether building your bench strength, planning for a phased retirement, or backfilling in an emergency, a proactive, well-structured, and responsible approach to succession planning empowers organizations to navigate these challenges and harness the opportunities that transitions present.

At Curtis Strategy, we empower non-profit leaders to navigate seamless leadership transitions through comprehensive assessments, customized data-driven plans, and expert facilitation. We turn potential disruption into catalysts for sustained growth, increased employee engagement, and successful new ventures.

To ensure an effective succession planning process, we engage in a series of interviews and utilize assessment tools to determine the challenges faced by the Executive. We actively involve stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the leadership capabilities needed within the organization and the sector, as well as the abilities of the potential successors. This phase concludes with the creation of a comprehensive report that highlights the strengths and areas where the Executive can improve and a recommended path to succession. A clear understanding of the executive's strengths and opportunities will guide our strategy in the Develop Phase.

During the Develop phase, the Executive and Coach work together to determine a path to success. This involves establishing specific goals that target the priority areas for improvement identified in the Assess phase. These goals are designed to equip the executive for success within the organization and beyond. To ensure a smooth transition and maximize knowledge transfer, the Executive and Coach will co-create a comprehensive plan that addresses change management. With a clear roadmap in place, the Achieve Phase will focus on putting those goals into action.

In the Achieve phase, the Executive and Coach meet regularly to review progress, identify challenges, and explore opportunities. The focus is on implementing new strategies and mindsets that align with the Executive's goals, leading to quantifiable results. They proactively anticipate and plan for potential setbacks, developing contingency strategies to stay on track. This dynamic process empowers the Executive to achieve sustainable growth and realize their full leadership potential.
